Mods can’t rewrite the main plot. You’ll complete a beautifully modded “first kiss” scene with Viola, then two missions later the vanilla game has her calling you “just a business partner.” The cognitive dissonance is real.
Note: This review focuses on the modding scene for the Saints Row franchise (primarily Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV, and the 2022 reboot), as the base games themselves range from having no romance (SR1, SR2, SRTT) to a single, plot-critical romance (SR4) to a single, shallow romance (SR 2022). The Short Verdict “A noble, janky workaround for a franchise that hates saying ‘I love you.’”
The best mods use 100% existing voice lines, cleverly spliced. You’ll hear Laura Bailey (female Boss 3) say “I’ve got your back, babe” to a modded Pierce, and because it’s her real voice, it almost feels intended. No cringey AI voiceovers yet, thank the Void.
