The fifth installment in the Resident Evil film series, Retribution, picks up where the previous film, Afterlife, left off. The story follows Alice (Milla Jovovich), who finds herself in a deserted Moscow, having lost her memories of the Umbrella Corporation and her past.

Alice, being the central character, soon discovers that she has been subjected to a treatment that has made her immune to the T-virus. This renders her a prime target for Umbrella, as they seek to harness her immunity to create a cure.

As Alice navigates the empty streets, she encounters a group of survivors, including a former Red Queen programmer, Carl (Oded Fehr), and a few others who are being pursued by the sinister Umbrella Corporation. The group soon discovers that they are in a trap set by Albert Wesker (Alexander Bach), the primary antagonist.

Wesker reveals his plan to create an army of super-soldiers, infused with the T-virus, to populate a new world order. The survivors are taken to an Umbrella facility, where they are subjected to various experiments.
