And then, a new comment appeared. From NotMyGrandpa.
“A big one, Gramps. Guy says your train set’s a fake.”
“This is Lana. You might remember the video of my grandpa and his trains. NotMyGrandpa, this is for you.” NotMyGrandpa - Lana Smalls - Challenge Accepted...
Lana read it three times. Then she walked to the workshop, where Harvey was polishing a tiny brass railing.
He pulled a tiny lever. The whistle wasn’t digital or recorded. It was a perfect, tiny metal scream that echoed off the workshop walls. And then, a new comment appeared
Lana stopped recording. She was shaking. That night, she edited the video. She cut nothing. She posted it with the caption: “NotMyGrandpa – Lana Smalls – Challenge Accepted… and answered.”
He set the train down and walked out of frame. Guy says your train set’s a fake
“My name is David. I’m 52. My father left when I was 8. I’ve been angry my whole life. I collect train photos online because they feel like the only solid things. I saw your grandpa’s video and I was jealous. I wanted to knock him down a peg. But after watching this… I think I just wanted someone to tell me it was okay to still be hurt. Tell Harvey the whistle sounded perfect. And tell him… challenge accepted. I’ll finish my own layout. From scratch.”
