The character select screen loaded. All 62 fighters. Except now, every single one of them had the same blank Mii face pasted over their own. Scorpion’s "GET OVER HERE!" came out as a distorted, squeaking "Ven aquÃ" from a mouth that didn't move. Sub-Zero’s mask was just a gray oval with two dead Mii eyes staring through.
He sat in the dark for a long time. Then, slowly, he opened the lid. Just his desktop wallpaper—a picture of his cat
But the pyramid was upside down. The sky was a screaming, staticky purple. And the fighters—the AI opponents—weren't attacking. They just stood there, their Mii-faces tracking Javier's character with unnerving precision.
Javier laughed nervously. "Corrupted texture. Classic Dolphin quirk."
Silence.
