Mapona felt it then—the sliver of the First Silence lodged near her heart. She had thought it was a scar from the battle. A price paid. But it was more. It was a door. Mapona volume 2

It had no fixed form. It shifted between shapes: a tall woman with seven mouths, all sewn shut; a child made of cracked mirror; a throne of coiled roots. But its true face was the absence behind all faces. A place where names went to die. You came back, the Shade said

She stood. “Where is its heart?”

Mapona did not turn. She knew the voice. It was Kaelo, the shadow-thief who had tried to sell her to the Hollow King’s riders. They had fought, then bled together, then parted in bitter understanding. Now he was back, leaner and with new scars across his knuckles. You broke my cage
