Today, a Malayalam film can premiere directly on a streaming platform and spark Twitter debates from Kerala to Kansas. This has encouraged more experimental storytelling—from the time-loop thriller Romancham (2023) to the absurdist comedy Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum (2023). Malayalam cinema doesn't just reflect Kerala culture—it debates it. The OTT Revolution and Global Reach The pandemic accelerated what was already happening: Malayalam cinema found a massive global audience on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and SonyLIV.
