Let’s rip the band-aid off. Then, let’s talk about how you can actually play this masterpiece on your computer. Unlike its predecessors ( Fable: The Lost Chapters ) and its successor ( Fable III —yes, that had a short-lived PC release), Fable 2 has never been officially released on PC.

Lionhead Studios (RIP) built Fable 2 with a heavily customized graphics engine that was apparently "spaghetti code" tied directly to the Xbox 360’s unique PowerPC architecture. Porting it to Windows x86 was deemed too expensive and technically nightmarish.

But if you’re a PC gamer, you’ve likely spent the last 15+ years asking one question:

If you grew up with an Xbox 360, Fable 2 holds a special, golden place in your heart. The chicken-kicking, the real-time expressions, the dog companion, and that tragic choice at the end of the Tattered Spire—it was a high-water mark for action RPGs.

Playground Games (the studio behind the new Fable reboot) has a golden opportunity here. Until they announce a remaster, these workarounds are your only ticket back to Bowerstone.

But for the first time in a decade, PC gamers have real options. If you have a decent internet connection, is magic. If you love tinkering and want 4K glory, Xenia is getting better every month.
