Director: André Badalo Release Year: 2022 Genre: Drama, Slice of Life Runtime: Approx. 84 minutes Synopsis The film follows Catarina, a shy, soft-spoken accountant in her thirties living a meticulously routine-driven life in Lisbon. After being suddenly laid off from her unchallenging office job, her carefully structured world begins to unravel. Without the scaffolding of her daily commute and desk, she is left to confront a void she has long ignored: an absent family, a non-existent social life, and a profound, aching isolation.
As Catarina navigates the city’s bureaucratic unemployment office, awkward job interviews, and silent meals eaten alone in her small apartment, she begins to observe—almost like a ghost—the “others” around her: a neighbor whose arguments bleed through the wall, former coworkers who have already forgotten her, and strangers on public transport. The film asks a quiet, brutal question: What happens when a person is so invisible that even losing their routine doesn't cause a ripple? This is slow cinema at its most empathetic. Badalo employs long, static takes, natural lighting, and minimal dialogue. Much of the story is told through Catarina’s expressive face (a remarkable performance by first-time actress and real-life accountant Cláudia Varejão ). The sound design is meticulous—the hum of a refrigerator, the clink of a spoon in a bowl, the muffled noise of Lisbon’s trams—creating an almost ASMR-like immersion into her solitude. catarina e os outros filme completo
