Ricky realizes they can’t carry the fern and outrun the blast. So he uses his tiny arms to tie the fern to Trixie’s frill. “You’re the fastest, Trixie. Go.” Trixie tears up. “But what about you?!” Gus picks up Ricky with his tail and says, “I’ve got the little guy. Now RUN, you adorable wrecking ball.”

They leap off the volcano as it erupts behind them—a giant firework display spelling out “YOU’RE LATE” (a running gag: the volcano is sassy).

THE SHELL – An abandoned giant turtle shell that Gus pulled over a creek. It has hammocks, a fire pit (lit by Trixie’s sneezes—she’s allergic to ferns), and Ricky’s “Emergency Emergency Board” (which is just layers of smaller boards). Pilot Episode: “The Last Fern-ferry” Cold Open: Ricky is calmly making a “Morning Safety Scroll” when Trixie bursts through the shell wall, wearing a helmet made of two halves of a coconut. “RICKY! GUS! I had a dream we were late! Let’s goooo!” Gus, buried in mud up to his nostrils, groans: “Five more epochs.”

They deliver the Mega-Fern. The Valley dinosaurs wag their tails again. Velma shows up, sees their messy, chaotic success, and huffs: “Ugh. Authenticity. How pedestrian.” She flies off, but secretly smiles.
