But Caesar has spies. As they approach, a trap springs: a net made of Roman chains falls on them. Obelix tears it apart like paper, but a hundred archers appear.

Suddenly, Gjergj stands tall. He whistles. From every mountain pass, shepherds appear — not with swords, but with fyerje (wooden pipes) and burning torches.
Gjergj explains that Julius Caesar, tired of the Illyrian tribes (the ancestors of modern Albanians) resisting him, has built a massive fortress near the Drin River. Inside is a — a giant, bronze-covered log pushed by 500 legionnaires. Worse, Caesar has captured the Illyrian princes and put them in chains inside the fortress.
